The Not-Strictly Ballroom Update is Live!

Click me for interactive high-res slider goodness…

Okay, so that took a lot longer than I thought it would, but The Not-Strictly Ballroom Update is out and live in the world!  If you’re in the beta, just launch the game and hit Play at the main menu and it’ll auto-update. If you’re not in the beta, why aren’t you?

If you’d like to read more about the update, check out this post, which also includes the cool interactive sliders version of the animation above. The biggest new things are the new Ballroom map (pictured above), and the six new “group 3” characters (including the twins!).  There are also lots of smaller fixes and features, and I’ll be adding more curated replay sets in the next few days and fixing a few bugs I put in the update just for you but that you don’t appreciate because you’re ungrateful so I’m taking them out, so there.

Finally. Have you ever considered adjusting your release dates to account for Valve Time?

    Also, first.

  2. Daniel says:

    will it be on steam?

  3. fonchifox says:

Are all beta testers getting Steam Keys? Or in case you’re getting console versions, can we get those keys instead?

    • checker says:

Yeah, Steam keys for sure.  I would love to be able to do that on console, but I’ve been told the console people won’t go for it, but yes, if I can talk them into it, I will!  On iPad I think I can pull some crazy shenanigans where the game is free but locked, but if you own it here you can get a code to unlock it.  But on consoles I don’t think that’s possible.  It’ll be a while before this is an issue, regardless.  :)   If it was up to me you’d buy it once and run it anywhere.

    • fonchifox says:

Jajaja that would be great.  Thanks for the reply. I’ve been loving the game so far, it’s shaping up pretty great.

    • checker says:

      Thanks, glad you like it!

  4. daniel says:

    please give me for free?

  5. dada says:

Bem que podia ser grátis né?

    • checker says:

I used google translate, so forgive me if this is wrong, but no, it’s not free, when you buy it you get all the updates, of course.

Will it ever be made as to where you could play with 3 or more players? Perhaps there would be multiple spies, only one of which has the real missions. The others would be just to throw off the sniper and make a more difficult game. Although there would certainly have to be an option to play 1-X amount of spies, and also a lobby system change. Just a suggestion as my friends would love to not have to keep playing winner, or Ro-Sham-Bo.

    • checker says:

Yeah, definitely. Once the 1v1 is perfect, we’ll experiment with a bunch of different modes like that, multiple spies, multiple snipers, spy-sniper teams, etc.

  7. Greendecker says:

2 snipers, 2 spies, each “team” has 1 of each and the sniper tries to kill the other team’s spy while the spies do their missions and try to not be noticed by the enemy sniper. Sounds interesting

    • checker says:

Yep, that one is definitely in the plans. With a possible twist: open chat channel with all 4 people on it! So people have to chat in the clear where the others can hear them. Kinda like signalling in bridge.

can british get this game without paying in american dollars

  9. CombustableLemons says:

I haven’t played since maybe July, how do I reinstall the game?

  10. Will this be on kickstarter?

    • checker says:

No, not the main game. It’ll be on Steam Early-Access later this year, but I don’t think I’ll need to kickstart it (that could change, but I don’t expect to need it). I have some expansion type ideas that I might kickstart to see if there’s interest, but those won’t be for a while.

    • That sucks. I want to be this on gaming consoles.am not PC Gamer but i like playing small pc games

    • checker says:

Oh, it’ll be on consoles, don’t worry!

I don’t have a PayPal and I can’t make a new one since my old one got hacked and went negative while I was inactive, so there any other way I can get into the game?

    • checker says:

Right now, no, but you don’t need a PayPal account, you can do credit cards through PayPal without making an account, does that help? If you can get to PAX we sell it using Square for cash or credit cards, but I don’t have a way to do that over the net. I’m going to add support for Amazon Payments and maybe Stripe (but I’ve heard bad things about them with fraud, so not sure on that yet). That’ll be a couple months, probably (post PAX).

I don’t quite understand. Your website claims the Beta is open, yet I have to pay? Am I doing something wrong or do we pay for the Beta Key and Full game access when you finish this.

    • checker says:

It’s an open beta in the sense that we had a closed beta that was invite only, and now anybody can join, but it is a paid early-access open beta, and you get all the updates and the final version of the game once you’ve bought the early-access beta.

  13. John E says:

What happened with this game. Was following for a long time but just checked in an no updates for a year?

    • checker says:

I have been terrible about posting to the blog, it is true, but the beta forums are active and I post on twitter and Facebook often. I’ve got a bunch of blog posts to write, so you should see more activity here soon. The game is still in active development and the next build is Thursday and is huge!

  14. Mgummelt says:

I cannot wait to buy this game on iPad…

  15. Andrew says:

Hello, I’m looking to get this game for a friend and I. Do both of us need an account for LAN play, or if I buy it can we both play just on LAN?

    • checker says:

Right now you need two copies. Eventually I’ll support offline LAN play, but it’s going to be a while. I’m also going to support “spawn copies” where you’ll get an extra account that will only play you so you can introduce people to the game that way, or if you’re always going to play the same friend, you can use that. But that’s also going to be a while!
